Job Description

Data Engineer

Full job description

Senior Software Engineer and Data Engineer

Engineering the future of antibody drug development to change the course of people’s lives!

Do you want to be part of an ambitious techbio start-up successfully tackling an issue nobody thought possible?

Antiverse is seeking a Senior Software Engineer and Data Engineer to help develop therapeutics and an enabling biologics discovery technology against challenging targets for 60+ indications. If you’re self-motivated and able to work without step-by-step guidance with a real drive to get things done – we want to hear from you.

Join us to grow and evolve with a company transforming drug discovery!

Culture and Values

We believe in the power of autonomy nurtured in a culture with the following values.

People first

We work to make things better for everyone: both on a societal level and a personal level. We will thrive, as a team, as a company and as a society by combining smartness with thoughtfulness across everything we do.

Rigour & agility

We move fast and innovate in our thinking, yet combine this agility with utter rigour and robustness. We are dedicated to delivering rock-solid solutions.

An ugly word for a beautiful idea. Our interdisciplinary approach goes deeper than our science. We believe that the best ideas and the most interesting conversations often come from synthesising diverse expertise and experiences.

Dignity & nurture

We fundamentally believe in the value of each individual and the worth of their contribution regardless of the outcome. We believe that we all thrive best in a nurturing environment, and everything in our power is committed to building this supportive culture.

Go where there’s a need

We have the potential to transform lives. We will not let ourselves be sidetracked in this calling. We will not fail those whose future we can save.

How can you contribute

You will be helping to design and build our data platform that will empower both our Machine Learning team and Laboratory team. Strong collaboration with both these teams is a must, both as data producers and data consumers.

You will be working with large amounts of data (multi-omic sequence data, structural data, large embeddings) that are generated, analysed, and used to train models daily at an increasing scale. This is a big challenge, but for the right person, it will be an exciting opportunity. We are using Google Cloud to deliver a data platform that applies broad industry-standard data engineering practices to specific biotech problems.

We haven’t got a long list of required tools because we want someone who can propose solutions and then identify the best tooling – if you don’t think we’re using the right tooling, this is the kind of job where you can debate that.

Day-to-day activities

Each day can look very different at Antiverse, with new priorities coming in quickly. Below is a rough outline of the work you’ll be involved in

  • Build reliable, secure, and scalable pipelines that allow our ML engineers to bring models to production and our lab scientists to gain the speedy insights they need.
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning and Laboratory teams to better understand their needs from our machine learning models and infrastructure.
  • Work cross-functionally with Data Engineering, ML Engineering, and DevOps to resolve issues and standardise practices.
  • Utilise agile software development principles, DevOps/SRE, and MLOps practices

Who you are

  • A motivated individual, passionate about the vision of Antiverse
  • Experience designing, evaluating and deploying data loading, transformation and storage solutions in Google Cloud (or AWS/Azure).
  • Worked on data processing or enrichment at a large scale, and are familiar with Python, DBT, Airflow, or similar tools.
  • Experience managing SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience with ETL and ELT patterns
  • Knowledge of workflow orchestration tools
  • Experience with an infrastructure as code tool, such as Terraform.
  • Interest in picking up new languages or tools, such as Golang or Rust.

If you look at this list and think you could do this and are excited by the opportunity but lack some hands-on experience, please get in touch anyway! We believe it’s much easier to develop technical experience than develop motivation & excitement, and we’re willing to invest our time and expertise in the right individual with the right motivations.

  • Become part of a top team at the intersection of Machine Learning and Drug discovery.
  • Commitment to invest in your development, both technical and professional.
  • £70,000-90,000 salary
  • Stock Options
  • 25 days + public holidays
  • Flexible working hours
  • Modern office space in the middle of Cardiff
  • Allowances for equipment both for home and office
  • Discounted Gym and Pool membership
  • Axa Health Insurance
  • Referral Bonus
