Job Description
As a Data scientist you will use business skills and analytical expertise to explore data, identify trends and solve problems. In a similar way to data analysts, you will review information such as sales figures, logistics or market research. You will use raw data and devise algorithms and predictive modelling techniques to analyse this information and investigate the impact of different solutions.
Job duties:
assesses the objectives and requirements of the organisation seeking advice;
Generating large databases from various sources of structured and unstructured data
Understanding the phases of product delivery and expert analyses across product life cycles, running the analysis for each stage, and contributing to decision making
uses appropriate techniques and theoretical principles to determine an appropriate method of data collection and research methodology, analyse and interpret information gained and formulate recommendations on issues such as future trends, improved efficiency;
designs and manages surveys and uses statistical techniques to analyse and interpret the quantitative data collected;
provides economic or statistical advice to governments, commercial enterprises, organisations, and other clients considering research findings;
working with business leaders to identify problems that can be resolved using data science techniques.
extracting data from multiple sources
processing and cleaning data
using advanced programming, statistical models, and machine learning to identity trends within and insights from data
applying business acumen to develop feasible data-based recommendations that will address organisational problems.
communicating findings and recommendations to business leaders.
Skills and Qualifications
Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc {depending on specific project requirements}. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable.
Great communication skills
Experience with data visualisation tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.
Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig
Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase {depending on project needs}
Good, applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
Good scripting and programming skills
Data-oriented personality
Experience of 3-5 years minimum or IT degree in data science (Bachelor or Master’s)

Salary: £31,500.00-£36,500.00 per year
