Role Purpose:
Working within the Performance Support department, this is a key position responsible for providing data analytics support to the performance analysis, sports science and medical teams. This will include the delivery, analysis and visualisation of performance data insights and data driven tactical analysis. The role also forms part of the larger group, linking closely with the Sport Republic data science team. Sport Republic are a London-based investment firm in the sports and entertainment industry. They hold majority ownership of Southampton FC, Goztepe SK and Valenciennes FC.
What is the Role?
Key to success within this role will be an ability to project manage, prioritise effectively, and communicate with a diverse interdisciplinary group of performance support staff; understand their needs, and collaborate on a range of potential solutions.
Performance Analysis Support
You will create advanced modelling of team performance data, whilst working closely with analysts to monitor team performance and create tactical insight. Supporting the first team with opposition analysis with statistical insights and supporting individual player development plans with objective data will be key parts of this role, whilst working closely with the Academy Individual Data Scientist to ensure tactical and medical analysis reports are aligned.
Sports Science & Medicine Support
You will be creating and maintaining an aligned reporting system for fitness testing data, merging information from various data sources to create holistic player performance dashboards, developing data collection processes and managing player screening information. You will manage and report on internal and external injury data, analysing historical data to create insights to aid injury prevention and support in the analysis of physical data from optical tracking and GPS.
Working on other data science projects including working with the Director of Football and the Director of Performance, conducting tactical research to identify global playing styles, optimum strategies and performance gains and liaising with data engineers to develop data ingestion and processing pipelines.
Is this you?
    • Knowledge of statistical computing languages (R/Python)
    • Knowledge of statistical methods and advanced numeric skills
    • Experience of visualising data and building dashboards (POWER BI / TABLEAU)
  • Strong knowledge of data science
  • Effective in articulating data insights to practitioners through visual and verbal presentations
  • Experience working within football or sports data (in a professional club environment)
  • Experience working with football tracking data
