We recognise the value in having people with a variety of backgrounds, experience, and skills in our business. That means the role requirements here should be seen as a guide, not a checklist. If you have more, less, or different experiences, but really relevant skills, we’d love to hear from you.
We work flexibly and will help you to find a healthy balance of remote working and time in our fantastic Southampton office, collaborating, taking part in events, and getting to know people that makes working with us so rewarding. We welcome the opportunity to discuss reduced hours and job share arrangements.
The Role
Carnival UK has a wealth of data, and within the Revenue Management & Deployment team there is a growing need to enhance our data modelling capabilities within our decision making and forecasting process.
We are looking to recruit a Data Scientist in the P&O Cruises Revenue Management & Deployment team, focused on developing, implementing, and driving our science capabilities within the business.
You will:
- Enhance and improve the forecasting process by understanding the influence key mix factors play across the selling cycle and in the end result, by delivering actionable insight from our revenue data
- Develop new propensity models using cutting-edge data science techniques to support decision making across the business and to enable more effective marketing and business strategies
- Develop testing methodology to ensure models remain statistically significant. In a highly dynamic environment, balance ‘art’ and ‘science’ and adapt systems and models over time based on observed behaviour
- Create and deliver engaging presentations that tell a story and crystallise action amongst key stakeholders presenting technical scientific material to non-technical audiences in a way that is meaningful and understandable to them
Our role categories range from CUK15 (entry level) to CUK1 (Brand President) so you can clearly see internal development opportunities. This role is a CUK08 and is offered on a full time, fixed term contract basis for 6 months, with at least two days based in our Southampton office.
About You
Fresh ideas and different perspectives are what excite us most and help us to succeed. Alongside bringing these to the role, you’ll also need:
- Master’s Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Operations Research, Applied Statistics, Applied Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field or a bachelor’s degree with 1+ years in experience in a relevant role
- Proven academic or business experience in applying research and other advanced methodologies to solve complex issues / strategic business problems
- Very strong analytical, statistical, and modelling skills, with experience manipulating and ‘making sense’ of data from disparate systems
- Experience communicating and collaborating with technical and non-technical colleagues and/or stakeholders
Being part of our team has its advantages…
