ABOUT US

Center Parcs has embarked on a project to create an in-house Master Data Store (a combination of Data Warehouse and Data Lake technology). We are looking for a Data Scientist to bring their knowledge and experience to help shape the direction of our data architecture strategy, understand the business requirements and develop in-house statistical models.

The Business Intelligence team categorise data into 4 business workstreams (Customer, Operational, Commercial and Colleague data). A key factor in delivering business outcomes and our strategic business vision, is the ability to both leverage and realise the value of the data both within and across the workstreams. The deployment of ‘Advanced Analytics’ capabilities, will allow us to query, mine and enrich our insights – utilising statistical methods and models to discover patterns, trends and correlations (within and) across our data workstreams.

ABOUT THE ROLE

DATA SCIENTIST – hybrid role with 2 days per week based in Head Office and 3 days per week homeworking

£60,000 per annum plus 18% bonus scheme

This exciting new role sits within the Business Intelligence team which forms part of the larger Sales and Marketing function. The objective of the Data Scientist role is to drive forward the business’ Advanced Analytics capability; to explore and prioritise the potential for, and subsequently enabling as appropriate, both ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Machine Learning’ technologies.

This will be a hands-on role, managing the future rollout and implementation of Advanced Analytics. The successful candidate will be a proficient specialist who applies mathematical, problem-solving and coding skills to manage big data and extract valuable insights. Using Advanced Analytics tools to data mine large databases of structured and unstructured data, building and developing statistical models, the role will have experience in developing and deploying statistical concepts and methods. Models could range from Segmentation, Media Optimisation, Next Best Actions, Propensity Modelling, and Customer Lifetime Value, Revenue management and Price Elasticity.

A key part of the role will be analysing data and generating statistical information to identify trends and patterns. The role will translate complex algorithms into clear and actionable recommendations, showcasing analysis/insight using clear recommendations and effective visualisations. Whether this be across analytics or visualisation tools, the output of your analysis should be clear, address business requirements and be presented in a visually engaging and effective manner to business stakeholders.

Business Intelligence are a team of passionate and talented analysts who have background qualifications in either maths or statistics. Whilst the Data Scientist role will not initially have any direct reports, the role will play an important role in coaching and mentoring specific members of the team to develop data science skills across the in-house team of analysts; providing both support and future development. This role may include people management in the future.

A key element of the role will be regular presentations to various functions and levels across the business and up to Operating Board level. You will be able to translate large and complex analytics into simple and understandable insight and recommendations. Preparing recommendations in the form of either business papers or presentations, to showcase insight in an engaging and effective manner.

HOURS OF WORK

You will be contracted to work 150 hours per 4-week period (37.5 hours per week). Normal Head Office working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, however occasional flexibility may be required.

Please note, this is a hybrid role with 2 days per week based in Head Office and 3 days per week homeworking.

ABOUT YOU

Essential requirements:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Methodical with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Technical experience / knowledge of SQL and advanced Excel
  • Experience in data visualisation tools (QlikView, Power BI, Tableau etc.)
  • A good understanding of how to manipulate and interpret complex/imperfect data sets
  • Highly skilled and experienced in both statistics and machine learning algorithms
  • Proficient in the use of Analytical Tools (Python, R, SAS etc.), with previous hands-on experience of comparable analysis/reporting tools
  • Proven experience in a highly numerate or data driven role
  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics or Data Science
  • Significant experience using a variety of data analysis, data mining methods and data tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build internal relationships with key stakeholders
